Use this info guide to learn how to activate and use Call Display.

With Call Display, the caller's number appears on your phone display so you know who's trying to reach you. This lets you screen your calls and answer them only if and when you want to.

Once you subscribe to Call Display, the caller's number will be displayed from the first ring.

What is Call Display and how does it work?

If your telephone has a display screen, Call Display will reveal a caller's telephone number while the telephone is ringing. This lets you know who's trying to reach you and makes it easy to screen your calls. Sometimes a caller will appear as "unknown name" or "unknown number." This can occur when the call comes from a mobile phone or switchboard, or when it's being routed through an incompatible system (some long distance carriers do this). These systems may not allow data such as the caller's name and number to pass through their equipment.

If you are away from your mobile phone and you receive a call, your phone may save a list of incoming numbers if you're unable to answer your calls. This functionality varies depending on the model of phone.

If you have a flip phone without an exterior display screen, you'll have to open your phone to see who's calling. To see the numbers before you answer your calls, you may have to deactivate the "open to answer" function.

Good to know:

  • The caller's name will also be displayed if the caller is in your phonebook.
  • If the display reads "Restricted," it means the caller has intentionally blocked their number.
  • Depending on your phone model, all the numbers of people who call are automatically stored in a list when your phone is on and in a service zone.
  • With Picture & Video Messaging you can see who's calling – literally. Save a picture of your family and friends to see them every time they call.

Call Display troubleshooting

My display shows "unknown name" and "unknown number" for calls.

This can occur when the incoming call is from a mobile phone or switchboard, or is being routed through an incompatible system (such as some long distance carriers). These systems may not allow data such as the caller's name and number to pass through their equipment.

I can't see who's calling on my flip phone.

If you have a flip phone without an exterior display screen, you have to open your phone to see the Call Display. To see the displayed number before you answer the call, you may have to deactivate the "open to answer" function. Otherwise, when you open the phone to view the displayed number, you will answer the call at the same time. For instructions on this function, refer to your phone's user guide.

My display shows number starting with '1' or '+1'. What does this mean?

On select phones (using Solo SIM cards) that run on the 3.5G (HSPA) network, all incoming calls appear in what is called plus code format, which includes the international country code. We recommend that you save all contacts in the plus code format, because the + eliminates the need to include 011 when calling internationally. Numbers should appear as: +, country code, area code and then the phone number. Note: holding down the 0 key will produce the + symbol.

How can I block or unblock my phone number from appearing when making an outgoing call?

3G (EVDO)

Dial *67 before you dial the desired phone number. This will block your phone number on a per-call basis at any time. If you have permanently blocked your number, you can unblock on a per-call basis by dialing *82 before you dial the desired phone number.

3.5G (HSPA)

Dial #31# before you dial the desired phone number. This will block your phone number on a per-call basis. If you have permanently blocked your number, you can unblock on a per-call basis by dialing *31# before you dial the desired phone number.
