If I'm out of my Solo Mobile local calling area and long distance calling isn’t included in my rate plan, how am I billed if I place a call?

When placing calls, you become local to the cell site that processes your call, regardless of your home mobile area. You're charged long distance from the cell site location that processes your call to the location you're calling. For example, if your mobile number is 416 XXX-XXXX (home mobile area being Toronto) and you're in Sherbrooke calling a Sherbrooke number, you'll be billed locally. If you're still in Sherbrooke calling Toronto, you'll be billed usage plus the long distance charges from Sherbrooke to Toronto.

When receiving calls, if you answer your mobile phone while travelling outside of your mobile telephone number's local area, long distance charges will apply. Find out more about travelling with your phone, or login to Self Serve to add long distance calling to your rate plan.

Why do I hear a warning message about long distance charges when I make a call on my mobile device?

A warning message for long distance charges will play when you make a 10-digit long distance call.

The warning message: “Your call is being connected; if not included in your plan, long distance charges will apply.” will play when you dial a 10-digit long distance number, regardless of whether or not your plan includes long distance calling.

If you no longer wish to hear this warning message before a long distance call, make sure to dial an 11-digit number, and if necessary, program the 11-digit number into your mobile device.

10-digit number: (XXX) XXX-XXXX
11-digit number: 1 (XXX) XXX-XXXX

Example:

You are in Toronto, and you place a long distance call by dialling a 10-digit Montreal number.

If you have a plan that includes long distance calling, the warning message will play, but you will not be charged long distance fees if you choose to continue the call.

Alternatively, if you have a plan that does not include long distance calling, the warning message will play, and you will be charged long distance fees if you choose to continue the call.

If you would like to add long distance calling to your plan, you can review your plan options with our Self Serve tool.
